Lightest and Thinnest Laptops in Indian Market

Zero size is in; it seems with the reduction in size of every consumer device. Miniaturization is the key.

With the trend of getting slimmer, mean machines are shedding their flab. The trend was initiated by Apple MacBook Air, a product that garnered accolades from market and consumers. The product started a new segment in laptop category and wooed vendors to jump into the new yet more appealing market segment.

The article will list few of the thinnest and light weight laptops in the market:

1. Apple MacBook Air: Award winning product designed by Apple weighing just 1.36kgs, made a stunning entry into laptop segment. The laptop was launched earlier this year with 0.16-0.76” statistics. The thinness of the laptop was not a bottleneck for the performance as it was supporting features that can settle with the appetite of a designer user who wants style with performance.
Integrated with 13.3” LED backlit screen, MacBook Air was supported on by 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 4 MB on-chip shared L2 cache and 800MHz FSB. The notebook offers 2GB RAM and 80GB hard drive. Additionally, the laptop sports a single USB port, an audio out port and a micro-DVI port, and no modem. The device enticed users as was on of its kind at the launch time, but cost was the biggest limiting factor.

2. Lenovo ThinkPad X300: Closely following the MacBook Air is the product launched by the Chinese vendor Lenovo. To compete in the thin segment, Lenovo launched ThinkPad X300 laptop weighing 1.32kgs and has measurements 0.73” to 0.92”. Supports 13.3” LED backlit screen with full-size keyboard and is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Duo SL7100 LV low-voltage chip, and comes with 1GB RAM and 64GB SSD. Additionally, it is integrated with GPS-locator and is WiMax-ready.

3. Dell Latitude E4200: Recently Dell made an entry to thin segment by launching Latitude E4200 weighing .99 kg and sporting 12.1” wide screen. With this notebook, the company also claimed of a longer battery life that runs for approximately 19 hours. To entice the users, company has launched the device in multiple shades Quartz Pink, Regatta Blue and Regal Red. Powered by 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor the laptop has a capacity of 5GB of RAM. The notebook comes packed with WiMax and GPS. The company has also introduced its variant E4300 which has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS support.

4. Samsung X360: This is the most latest and recent entry to the thin laptop segment. The Korean manufacturer has forayed the segment with its X360, claiming it the world’s thinnest laptop. It weighs 1.27kgs and has 13.3” LCD screen. The laptop is powered by Intel Centrino 2 ultra-low voltage processor, DDR3 1066MHz 1GB memory, expandable up to 4GB, has three USB ports, a built-in HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection, 34mm express card slot and VGA output. Equipped with Bluetooth, 1.3MP camera, videoconferencing features, the laptop offers 10 hours of battery life.

With rapid invasion of this segment by blue chips also, it will not take long that we will have variety in thin laptop segment as like others.
